We urge the Department of Natural Resources work with the Department of Environmental Conservation and the Department of Fish and Game to initiate and execute at least four actions to fulfill state constitutional and statuatory public interest responsibilities related to recent applications by Northern Dynasy Mines, Inc (NDM) for withdrawing, diverting or impounding water in support of its propoes Pebble Mine and related infrastructure and activities in the headwaters of the North For Koktuli River, South Fork Koktuli River, Upper Talarik Creek, and other portions of the Nushagak-Mulchatna and Kvichak watersheds. We oppose the creation of the Bristol Bay Mining District, including the proposed Pebble Mine. We request the Alaska Delegation take action to permanently withdraw all Bureau of Land Management (BLM) administration lands within the Bristol Bay watershed from locatable mineral entry. The management priority for these public lands and waters should be to maintain the wild salmon fishery, wildlife habitat, and subsistence way-of-life, NOT MINING....read more
