Melissa Heuer, Deputy Director

Born and raised in Alaska, Melissa is an avid outdoors enthusiast and enjoyer of our wild outdoor places. After returning to Alaska from a few year hiatus, Melissa found herself jumping from tender to tender in Bristol Bay working on a research project to improve the quality of salmon coming out of Bristol Bay.

Though she was hooked on the area after a 10 day long backcountry trip she had done a few years prior, after seeing all of the fishermen and the extraordinary number of fish coming out of the bay, she was sold. The Pebble Mine could not destroy this area. A few months later and back in Anchorage, a position opened and she grabbed at the chance to fight for an area as Alaskan as it gets.
